Day 3 in Nicaragua

Lots of pictures from my day today at Nicaragua Christian Academy (NCA). This trip has been really a wonderful experience. Everyone always mentions the wonderful people they've met on their trips and I know there are wonderful people everywhere, but it is so true - it is the people who make the place wonderful and the people here have made this a wonderful trip. I am so glad I had the opportunity to come out here.

The first graders led chapel today for the lower elementary grades. The topic was God's protection over his creation. The teacher asked the students to name Nicaragua's two seasons. I wanted to say, "Hot and Hotter," but I guess that wasn't the right answer.

Some pictures of NCA's campus:

The playground area for the preschool and kindergarten students.

Some of the elementary classrooms

High school classrooms

It may be the dry season, but there are still plenty of flowers blooming.

The high school drama class helped lead chapel for the upper elementary students.

Wouldn't it be hard to concentrate on assignments when this is the view from your classroom?

I have also spent time this week doing workshops with teachers who want to help students who have special needs. There is such a huge need here for trained people who can work with these students. Tomorrow I will be going to another school that is solely for education of students with special needs and I will be doing a training with their entire staff. It will be very different from my usual presentation experience. For one thing, I will be using an interpreter. I will also not be able to use any of my typical "props" like powerpoint or even a white board. I hope I am up to the task. Please pray that God will use me to provide these people with the information they need in a way they can use for the benefit of their students.

  1. Hi, My name is Grace. I lived in Nicaragua for 2 years and it really was an eye opening experience. I was wondering if you traveled there for missions work or for other reasons. The pictures you have posted of the school is, believe it or not, where I went to church. They held services every Sunday morning. I hoped you enjoyed visiting and learned as much as I did. These people had absolutely nothing and still to this day are the happiest people I know.
